Federal judge orders preliminary injunction prohibiting termination of TPS for Sudan, Nicaragua, Ha
An article published in the British newspaper The Guardian reports that a federal district court judge in California issued a preliminary injunction against the Trump administration barring its termination of Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for four countries: Sudan, Nicaragua, Haiti and El Salvador. The questionable basis for terminating TPS for these countries is something that I have commented frequently on in this blog before.
This is a major development, and it is my hope that the injunction is not overturned on appeal. Interestingly, part of the judge's reasoning referenced statements from the President making derogatory racist comments about the countries involved. Another major factor was, obviously, the irreparable harm that would be visited on TPS holders as a result of the terminations of their status.
One thing I am surprised about is that Honduras was also not included on the list. The same reasoning certainly applies to it. It may be that citizens of Honduras were not included in this suit. Further details will be provided when access to the actual decision is available.
